Stoddard Fuels of Cumbria are a family owned solid fuel merchants. Stoddard's Fuels has a long association with coal. Trevor's grandfather worked as a miner down the pits in the Northumberland coal fields.

A generation later Trevor's father began working in the haulage and distribution of coal from the Northumberland coal fields. He mainly led small coals to supply the power stations.

He brought in coal from West Cumbria pits and screened in our yard using a power screen, the small coal we led into Willowhome Power Station and he were left with the large coal which he supplied in bulk to other coal merchants or to farmers.

By 1966 he had a good customer base and as the Willowholme Power Station had closed years before Trevor started working on a pick up truck delivering the coal in bags to the general public.

Trevor passed his HGV in 1988 he moved to larger trucks as the coal business grew. That's when Trevor decided to park up the haulage truck and concentrate on the bag deliveries.

With the death of Trevor's' father in August 1993 another generation was lost but in September 1993 another one came along with the birth of son Billy.

In 1994 Trevor decided to buy another bulk tipper to lead coal into the yard so with the local pit at Greenhead supplying h work to the North East and Yorkshire daily Stoddard's were able to bring their own fuels. They built on this and bought two artic tippers until the pit closed in August 2002. With the work drying up to get them where they wanted to be and the ever increasing haulage costs they decided to end that part again! (for now).

Another son Adam was born in 1998 so Stoddard's can continue to supply fuels to everyone for the foreseeable future.

Today Stoddard's Fuels deliver throughout Cumbria, Northumberland and South West Scotland.
